How many times have you quoted Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz saying, “There is no place like home?” That old phrase rings so true but in what sentiment do we say that in? Are your thoughts about your home thoughts of comfort? Are you constantly thinking of ways to bring in beauty to your home? Maybe thinking of ways you can make it more organized?


A homemakers joy should be to create a positive and beneficial ambiance in the home. I can hear it now, what is that? Well let me to try and explain this. Our homes have a tone, that tone or atmosphere that is felt and observed by all that are in the home and by all who visit the home. Like the effect of a fragrance when you enter a home, it is something that may be good and sweet or it may be bad and foul. This atmosphere can reflect a tone of beauty, peace, love, comfort, and structure. Or it can be plain, cold, and empty of life or possibly even cluttered, chaotic, and stressful. It can be full of kind words or full of angry words.


Creating this comfortable ambiance does take effort but it may not be as difficult as it sounds. Many people don’t see that a bouquet of fresh flowers in the home can cause happiness, or that a meal served on a beautiful table cloth can bring a feeling of security to those being served. But that is exactly what kind of effects that simple everyday small interventions made by a homemaker can foster. We as homemakers, through our daily tending, mending, cleaning and decorating ……Yes your heard me right decorating, can create beauty, comfort, and structure in our homes. Don’t panic, this doesn’t have to take a lot of money as some of my families favorite memories are of hand picked flowers and thrifted blankets and decorations. One of the greatest treasures to me is to come across a hand stitched table cloth or a crochet afghan that someones grandmother made. My mind goes crazy thinking about who they were and what they were thinking when they created these beauties. No doubt their humble expressions of great love for their families, now in my hands to continue appreciating all that love an effort of homemakers before me. Those who in the past had accepted the call of creating beauty and love in their homes.
